This site is a Wiki, which means that anyone who has the password can edit pages, add new pages, post photos, and in general contribute to the creation of the site. The below information will help you learn how to do various editing tasks.
Editing
- The password is the name of the women's domitory, small letters, no space between the name and house. Get it? If you have questions e-mail me. jim@belknapcollege.com
- To edit a page, simply click the "Edit" button at the bottom of the page and start typing. Click "Save" when you're done editing.
- To display a word (or words) in bold text enclose them within 3 single quotation marks:
'''like this''' - To display a word (or words) in italic text enclose them within 2 single quotation marks:
''like this'' - To create a headline on a page, precede it with two exclamation marks:

Images
To place an image on a page, follow these steps:
- Type the following in the spot where you want to place the image:
Attach:imagename.jpg
For the name of the image (imagename.jpg) use a short word or phrase that reasonably describes the image. (It is best to check the image name on your computer first and then use it exactly the way it appears on your computer, then when you up load it the image will always match the name on this wiki) Do not use any spaces or non-alphanumeric characters in the image name. Be sure to end it with .jpg or .gif, depending on the format of the image you want to use. - After doing any other editing you want to do on the page, click the Save button.
- The page will be displayed with
Attach:imagename.jpgappearing as a link with a triangle to the right of it. The triangle means that you have not yet uploaded the specified image. Click the link to bring up a dialog box that will allow you to select and upload the image. - Click the "Browse" button to select the image on your computer. It must be a gif or jpg image
- The image name that will be used on the web site is already filled in with what you entered for the image name in the first step. Leave it as is.
- Click the "Upload" button.
- After the file has uploaded, you can edit the page again, or view the page by clicking its name in large type at the top of the page you are on. Your image has been uploaded and should appear on the page.
Files
You can upload files such as Word documents or other non-image files and have them available as downloadable links. Simply follow the same steps as above for Images, but select and upload a non-jpg/non-gif file.
New pages
To create new pages in the Belknap College Wiki, follow these steps:
- Go to the page that will contain the link to your new page, and click Edit to go into Edit mode for that page
- Where you want the link to appear on the page, type the link text inside double square brackets, like this:
[[My new page]] - Click Save. That page will be re-displayed with an active link to your new, empty page. The link has a little question mark next to it, which indicates that the page is new and has no content.
- Click that link and begin typing in the content for your new page.
- Be sure to click the "Save" button when you're done. You can add images and attach files to your new page just as you would to any other page.
Links
- To make a link to an external page outside of this site, simply type the complete URL of the page, including the
http://part, like this:http://www.belknapcollege.comThe URL will automagically be converted into a link. It will look like this on the page: http://www.belknapcollege.com - To make a link to an external page using some other text as the link, type two left square brackets
[[, then type the full URL for the link. Then type a "pipe" character: | The pipe is usually achieved by hitting shift-backslash. Then end the whole thing with two right brackets]]. Your entry should look like this:[[http://www.tropicalwebworks.com|Tropical Web Works]]
After you hit Save the link will be created automatically. It will look like this on the page: Tropical Web Works - To make a link with someone's e-mail address, type the two left square brackets
[[then type an opening parenthesis ( then type mailto: then type a close parenthesis. Then enter the e-mail address, and finally end it with two right brackets]]Your entry should look like this:[[(mailto:)jim@suncoasteam.com]]
After you hit Save the e-mail link will be created automatically. It will look like this on the page: jim@suncoasteam.com
The Sandbox
The "Sandbox" link in the left-hand menu is for learning how to use the Wiki. Create some new pages, add some photos, experiment with text formatting. It doesn't affect any of the rest of the site and you can experiment as much as you want.
