As I wrote under “Departed”, I visited Steve and Paula out in Logan Utah in the spring of 1975. They transported me to-and-from the airport in Salt Lake City. Rugged country out there! Steve and I spent a day as he was shepherding a grove of apple trees which had automatic water spraying on them in freezing weather to make them “hardy”. I know he wrote his thesis but later altered his approach and became a Doctor of Education. Many of us also changed our approach in life. It is all for a reason. A harder worker will never be found. [ I continued-on to Las Vegas to man my first electronics show booth in the West.The first of many as I entered the HVAC business.] They went on to have a great family, far away from his loving parents and friends in the East. Our paths never crossed again. May the good Lord bless his memory and his family.

Though many years later, here is my Memory Eternal of my great friend Dr. Steven Zsiray: I visited Steve in the spring of 1975, as I had a trade show in Las Vegas so my company allowed me to first fly to Salt Lake, Utah to see Steve and his wife, Paula. He was working towards his doctorate by overseeing a spraying of water technique to “harden” fruit trees to cold conditions. Steve and Paula were of the highest quality human beings which I have ever met. He worked very hard at his job, far away from friends and family back East. It was shocking to read that he had departed in 2014. Steve Zsiray will be sorely missed by fellow Belknap students and his family.

Fellow Belknap Alumni,

Christine J.Bridges, my wonderful wife of 47-years, passed away after a long illness November 11, 2023. Philadelphia has been good for us after moving back in 1997. We did make one reunion, October, 2016, then continued-on to visit Quebec City. One can live peacefully here. We must educate a whole new generation, born this century. And continue having the best of ideals, as Dr. Frye reflected as we often were taken up the Hill by him on a cold December day. May his and Staff be remembered eternally.

The website (fiafoundation.org) no longer provides the final farewell notice for Carlos Macaya. I apparently did not save a copy of the tribute. I do have several photos of Carlos and his family if anyone is interested.
